How To Start A Prayer Evangelism Initiative
Here’s how to start your own powerful PRAYER OUTREACH that will bless GOD, bless YOUR COMMUNITY and bless YOU.
Here are 7 simple steps to get you started on your blessings journey.
1. Ask the folks in your church or synagogue if they would like to do something for God. Tell them what you’re going to do, and why you’re going to do it. To pray for 2 to 3 people a day, by name, known and unknown, in your community.
2. Lifting each one individually before the Lord. Ask for prayer volunteers to sign up on the Prayer Outreach Volunteer Log.
Based upon the number of volunteers, set a realistic number of people to pray for each day (i.e., 2-3 per day, 5 days a week) and a reasonable time to pray (i.e., the next 2 months).
You will find the names of all the people in your community with a phone number listed on a free website called Switchboard.com.
3. (a) Click on the “Find a Person” tab at the top of the page.
3. (b) Type in the first two letters of the alphabet followed by a star * in the last name section of the online form to search for the last names that begin the first two letters (i.e., Aa*, Ab*, Ac*).
Enter your community’s five digit zip code (i.e., 13669. 13668) and then press “Search”.
All the last names beginning with the first two letters of the last name in the five digit zip code you searched for will appear on the Switchboard.com search pages.
Note:
When you press Search Switchboard.com will automatically redirect you to Whitepages.com people search web site.
5. You may want to either print the page listings of the people on the Switchboard.com search that you want to pray for and give them to your volunteer prayer warriors with instructions on how to and what to pray for.
You may not want to print out each list but assign the first two letters in a last name AA, AB, AC, AD, AE, to those who have access to the Internet. (i.e., prayer #1 prays for everyone with the last name beginning with AA, AB, AC, AD and AE in their last names in a specific zip code.)
Switchboard.com provides you with the total number of names and name listings for any given search.
We recommended that you assign as many names on the list to pray for as one individual can comfortably handle.
(Example, if each prayer partner prays for 3 people a day, you may want to assign a list containing a minimum of 30 names (5 days per week X 2 weeks X 3 people per day) or enough names to continuously pray for at least two weeks without stopping to wait to receive a new list of names.
6. Track each volunteer’s progress periodically and the prayer results on your Prayer Outreach Volunteer Log. Ask God to touch each person and family that you pray for as directed by the Holy Spirit.
7. When your volunteer group has completed their objectives, you may want to wait upon the Lord for answers to your prayers and ask your volunteers to provide praise reports as to how God is blessing them and those being prayed for and to encourage others regarding the power of prayer and our awesome God.
